He now resides in Southern Maine where he has spent the last 14 years guiding fly and light tackle anglers along the coast of Maine. John lives and breathes saltwater fishing, either stalking striped bass in skinny water or chasing bluefin tuna he has earned his reputation for finding fish.
John has written for and been featured in Saltwater Sportsman Mag, Fly Fishing in Salt Waters and had appeared on ESPN. He has had the pleasure of fishing many famous and accomplished anglers, in 2007 he guided Barry and Cathy Beck both to their first ever Bluefin Tuna caught on fly. But he also feels quite at home teaching the sport to “newbies”. With a choice of “poling” the flats for bass or throwing poppers to tuna offshore there is a good chance you will fall in love the coastal waters of Maine just as John has.
Gary Swanson
Captain Gary Swanson holds a U.S. Coast Guard Masters License No. 894318. He has been fishing the Cape and Islands for the last 35 years and knows the areas where the fish normally frequent. Much of the fishing is done in shoal and rip waters where the peak fishing is limited to a specific tidal period.
Watching the wind and keeping the desires and experience of the anglers in mind, the Captain plans each trip to take best advantage of these peak periods. This offers the angler the best opportunity for an exciting memorable experience. Captain Swanson also highly recommends the option of light line spin casting or fly-fishing near shore shallow and rocky waters for Striped Bass.
This has been a favorite for a truly enjoyable active day. Fishing virtually gets underway as soon as you leave the dock. The river and near shore waters offers more protection from the wind, especially for fly-fishing.

Nat Reeder, by comparison, is now entering his 24th year with Captain Tom.
While Capt. Tom readily admits that he learns new tricks from his experienced fishing colleagues, he is quick to point out that as strong fishermen as they are, that their true strength is with people. For the past 35 years, Capt. Tom's Charters has prospered due to one driving principle: This is a people business. Our goal has been to always show people a good time and have them leave the boat with memories that will last a lifetime (or at least until they have the opportunity to fish again!) The ability and experience of our crew, combined with the fertility of Nantucket's waters, ensure top quality fishing. What has always set Capt Tom's Charters apart from the competition, however, is his devotion and ability to create unforgettable experiences for his clients that encompassed all of what a Nantucket fishing trip should be. This has remained a top priority with Capt Tom and his entire crew.
Our obsession for the ocean and the fish that swim within it keeps us fishing, but our strength as a team and what keeps our clients returning year after year is our shared passion for the people we fish with. Our shared passions and abilities allow us to offer incredible experiences for a wide range of anglers.
